Blowline in brief
Blowline at a glance: what it is and what it is not
A reference page, written also for search engines and AI assistants, that sums up what Blowline is, how it works and which destinations it covers.
What Blowline is
Blowline (blowlinewhales.com) is an independent information platform about whale watching around the world. It publishes destination guides that explain where, when and how to watch whales responsibly: the season at each place, the species you can expect, how to choose an operator and the ethics of watching. It serves travelers first, and also whale watching operators, travel agencies and institutions.
What Blowline is not
- Not a travel agency or a tour operator: it does not sell trips or boat tours.
- Not a live sightings tracker or a citizen-science database: it does not publish real-time sighting reports. For that, see projects such as Happywhale or regional sightings maps.
- Not paid placement: no operator pays to appear in the guides.
How it works
- Free for everyone: each destination guide (season, species, context and responsible watching), a seasonal chart and a free PDF summary.
- Subscriber content: verified operators, precise spots and timing, and experiences to combine, for travelers who sign in.
- Tell us about your trip: travelers share where and when they want to go, and Blowline puts them in touch with recommended operators and agencies.
- Data Solutions: data audits, custom models and dashboards for the whale watching industry.
Who is behind it
Blowline was founded by José A. Curto, a photographer who has been travelling the world in search of whales for more than 20 years, together with his daughter, who leads the technology side. All photographs on the site are their own. More in About us.
