Humpback whale breaching in Monterey Bay, California

Data consulting for whale watching.

Audits, models and dashboards for operators, agencies and institutions. Here you can see what each deliverable looks like.

What we do

From the logbook to a season decision.

Most operators already record a lot: bookings, sightings, surveys. The problem is that this data lives in different places and is never cross-referenced. Our job is to put it in order, analyze it and hand it back in a format that helps decide: when to schedule trips, what to promise customers, where to invest.

We work with each client's data and compare it against Blowline's destination database, so every figure has context.

Our database

Our own database, built source by source.

Before working with any client's data, we did the groundwork: bringing together, in one place, reliable public information on whale watching worldwide, along with our team's field knowledge. Seasons by species and month, watching rules, protected areas, conservation status and reference prices.

Every data point carries its source and a classification of how it may be used. In total, 542 cited sources, 354 of them official or scientific bodies. It is the baseline we compare each client's data against.

How we work

A short process, with a deliverable at every step.

  1. Initial call

What you want to know and what data you have, as it is: paper, spreadsheets or your booking system.

  2. Audit

We review the sources and deliver the report with prioritized changes.

  3. Analysis or model

If it makes sense, we build the model or analysis that answers your question.

  4. Follow-up

A dashboard for the season and periodic reviews with us.

The samples in this section use fictional data and say so in every figure. When we publish cases with real data, they will always cite their source.
